Vance Randolph Presentation

The free quarterly program at the White River Valley Historical Society on Sunday, September 14th will feature The Folktales of Vance Randolph, presented by Sarah Klinefelter, retired Professor of English from College of the Ozarks. The doors will open at 1:00pm at the Society, 297 Main Street, Forsyth (across from the Judicial Center) for refreshments and social time. A short business meeting will be held at 1:45pm, immediately followed by the presentation.

Working out of the University of Arkansas in the 1930s–1960s, Randolph lived with the people of the upper White River Valley region of the Ozarks, recording and collecting their music, stories, and beliefs, eventually writing a large number of books and articles. The program will feature a multitude of his witty stories ranging from courting, marriage, and birthing to living and dying in the Ozarks.

The WRVHS is currently hosting the publication of a new book, Taney County History & Families, which will be published in Fall, 2015.  Prior to the presentation, volunteers of the Society will be on hand to assist guests with preparation of family histories and stories of the communities of Taney County. Stories and photographs may be submitted with no cost, and without obligation to purchase a book.
