Depression Era Living Room Display

A circa-1930s automobile, replica living room, over sixty varieties of vintage feedsack, and hundreds of images and stories of life in the Ozarks were on display November 9th through December 16th.

“The Great Depression” exhibit was designed by Historical Society members. The automobile, built from a combination of original (as well as ’unique’) parts, provided visitors with a glimpse of a vehicle packed for migration to the West during the drought conditions that plagued this area during the ’30s. The replica living room featured original White River Leader newspaper-lined walls and a vintage pump organ from the town of Dickens. Display panels told the tales of the Great Depression through topics such as the WPA, CCC, Thrift, Migration, Crime, and more.
