A Branson School jacket, map and photos of one-room schools throughout the county, and other local items of interest are currently on display at the Branson Centennial Museum.
Through the generosity of local philanthropist Jim D. Morris, the Branson Centennial Museum will continue being an active part of the downtown Branson scene.
Morris, longtime owner of Morris Oil Co. and other businesses in the area, donated the use of his building at the corner of Bus. 65 and West 76 as part of the 2012 Branson Centennial celebration. The White River Valley Historical Society, in collaboration with the Branson Chamber of Commerce, DBMA, and City of Branson, opened the museum in April, with over 5,000 visitors to date.
With the announcement that Mr. Morris is donating the continued use of the building for the museum, the WRVHS has set a schedule for it to remain open several days a week during the winter months, advancing to longer hours in early spring of 2013.
“Nearly half of those who have visited the ‘Jim D. Morris Gallery’ in the Branson Centennial Museum are residents of the area, and we feel it’s important to remain open year-round to give the locals a chance to enjoy seeing what our history is all about”, explained WRVHS Managing Director Leslie Wyman. “We’re pleased to continue to have a Branson presence in addition to our Forsyth location, and plan to expand the rotating exhibits to include more of the county’s history, although our primary focus there will showcase photographs and artifacts from the Branson area.”
