
The sanctuary of the Community Presbyterian Church in Forsyth was filled with music and stories of religious events in the Ozarks’ past on Sunday, March 13, during the White River Valley Historical Society’s ‘Gospel Sing’ program. Over 140 people attended the event, with 10 different choirs and church groups from the region performing favorite hymns. Songs ranging from old favorites to more contemporary versions were presented, showcasing the diversity of music styles of the various denominations represented. Following the program, guests toured the current “Religion” exhibit at the WRVHS next to the church, and sampled refreshments including Scripture Cake, which included “1 Samuel 25:18, Numbers 17:23, and Judges 14:18” as part of its’ ingredients. The White River Valley Historical Society celebrated its’ 50th Anniversary with a special quarterly program including refreshments, music by the Lennon Brothers and Gail Lennon, and a presentation by Dr. Fred Pfister on “50 Years in the Ozarks”. Visitors to the White River Valley Historical Society learned more about what goes on “behind the scenes” at the Society, located at 297 Main St, Forsyth, across from the Taney County Judicial Center. A presentation showcasing some of the many areas the WRVHS is involved in was shown, and guests were allowed to tour the building, with volunteers providing hands-on demonstrations of the various activities throughout.
