WRVHS Items Featured in ‘White River Memoirs’ Exhibit

Several photographs and paintings held by the White River Valley Historical Society are part of an exhibit about the White River, currently on display at the Arts Center of the Ozarks, Springdale, Arkansas.

‘White River Memoirs’ is an exhibition of art, objects and photography that celebrate the White River and its inhabitants compiled by author-photographer Chris Engholm, in conjunction with the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History and a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council. For the past year, Engholm paddled his handmade canoe over 550 miles of the 700-mile river, now part of a series of lakes including Table Rock, Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals, conducting oral history interviews and creating a multimedia interpretation of the river from the perspective of his (often leaking) canoe.

“We were able to provide the exhibit with several items, including reproductions of two of our beautiful John D Arnold paintings, and copies of several photographs from our Sibyl Parrish and Willard Cornett collections,̵ stated Leslie Wyman, Managing Director of the WRVHS. “I was also honored to serve as one of the project’s advisors, and look forward to personally seeing the exhibit, which features quite a few paintings, photographs and original objects pertaining to the White River.”

The Arts Council of the Ozarks is located at 214 S. Main in downtown Springdale, Arkansas. The exhibit runs through January 25th, with no admission charge.
