WRVHS Announces Educational Courses for 2012

Members of the White River Valley Historical Society have announced plans for educational courses for 2012, ranging from short workshops to multi-week courses for all ages.

The courses will include a repeat of the popular “Civil War in the Ozarks” offered in 2011, as well as topics including native plant identification, native food preparation, “Old Town” walking tours, care of books and documents, traditional crafting, beginning genealogical/historical research, photo identification/dating, and preparing digital histories.

“One of our primary goals as a historical society is to provide educational events such as these”, stated Managing Director Leslie Wyman. “We’re especially excited to be able to offer these to the community at no charge, thanks to a grant from the Roy W. Slusher Foundation that is covering the cost of all the supplies. These courses will be available to individuals as well as groups throughout Taney County, and will begin in early summer. While we don’t have our schedule developed yet, those interested in specific courses are welcome to contact us at 417-546-2210 for early registration. We are also interested in visiting with groups to see if we can offer a course customized to specific historical interests.”
