WRVHS Forms Free ‘Whippersnappers’ Kids Club

Whippersnappers Club

Amber Ogden, center, works with WRVHS staffers Dustan Ingenthron and Leslie Wyman on development of the Whippersnappers Club.

The White River Valley Historical Society recently added 11-year-old volunteer Amber Ogden to its Publication Team. In addition to writing a special children’s activity page for each of the Society’s Quarterly Journal magazines, Ogden has been involved in the formation of a group geared toward preteen and younger children—The Whippersnappers.

“We’re very excited about the Whippersnappers Club,” said WRVHS Managing Director Leslie Wyman. “Members will not only receive their own special newsletters and occasional prizes, but will also be able to submit their articles, puzzles and drawings about history for publication. Amber has also helped create a display panel in our current exhibit in Forsyth, and plans are to involve other club members in future exhibits at both of our locations. We’ve conducted history courses for several years at the Forsyth Boys & Girls Club and with homeschool groups, plus assisted with various classes in Forsyth and Hollister schools, and are always amazed at how much interest the youth have in the area’s rich history! The Whippersnappers Club will give the kids an opportunity to not only continue to learn about the events and people of our past, but also to be involved in the Society itself.”

Membership in the club is free, and open to children of all ages. Forms may be picked up at the WRVHS, the Branson Centennial Museum.
