WRVHS Offers Genealogical/Historical Research Workshop

The White River Valley Historical Society is offering a genealogical/historical research workshop at no cost to participants.

On Saturday, March 22, there will be a day-long Beginning Research workshop at the Society, located at 297 Main St, Forsyth (across from the Judicial Center). While primarily consisting of instructional presentations ranging from organization to planning a research trip to breaking through “brick walls”, participants will also begin compiling various charts and data sheets on their ancestors and other historical subjects of interest. Refreshments will be provided; however, each person will need to bring a brown-bag lunch.

“We’ve held this workshop several times over the past few years, and in December had a record number of attendees booked, with several of them braving the snowy conditions to attend,” stated WRVHS Managing Director Leslie Wyman. “We have visitors in our research library nearly every day—some for genealogy and others for specific areas of historic interest. Many of those who use our facility are excited to find family or historical information, but are overwhelmed by various procedures, such as organizing all of their information. The workshop will help break it all down into more understandable, easy steps. While the presentations provide basic instructions suitable for beginners, we generally also have attendees with some research experience who need some advice or motivation to proceed further.“ Space is limited for the workshop. In addition to the research library, the White River Valley Historical Society offers a gift shop/bookstore and museum, with no admission charge. Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. The WRVHS also manages the Branson Centennial Museum, located at 101 Veterans Blvd (corner of Bus 65 and W Hwy 76), in downtown Branson, which has winter hours of Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
