WRVHS Offers Genealogical/Historical Research Workshop

The White River Valley Historical Society is offering a genealogical/historical research workshop at no cost to participants.

On Saturday, December 7th, there will be a day-long Beginning Research workshop at the Society, located at 297 Main St, Forsyth (across from the Judicial Center).  While primarily consisting of instructional presentations ranging from organization to planning a research trip to breaking through “brick walls”, participants will also begin compiling various charts and data sheets on their ancestors and other historical subjects of interest.  Refreshments will be provided; however, each person will need to bring a brown-bag lunch.

“We held this workshop twice in 2012, and since that time, have been asked several times to offer it again,” stated WRVHS Managing Director Leslie Wyman.  “As the organization designated by the Taney County Commission to process their historic research requests, we have visitors in our research library nearly every day—some for genealogy and others for specific areas of historic interest.  It’s apparent that there are a lot of people out there who would like to learn more about research, but are overwhelmed by the prospect.  The workshop will help break it all down into more understandable, easy steps.  While the presentations are geared toward beginners, many of our past attendees have had some experience, but needed some fresh ideas and motivation to help them further their skills.”
