Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA), in partnership with the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and its partner state arts agencies, provides the Hands-on Experiential Learning Project (HELP) program to more than 45 small and midsize organizations throughout its region. This customized training program provides training that addresses the specific needs of these important cultural organizations, centering on strategic planning, resource management, and community engagement, and culminating with a capstone project in each participating organization’s community.
The White River Valley Historical Society is one of the participating organizations, and for their capstone project, the Historical Society will present a unique community “jam session” and old-fashioned pie supper. The public is invited to attend this program, “Party Like It’s 1769!,” on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Shadow Rock Park, U.S. 160 in Forsyth, Mo., 65653. Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to attend. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Historical Society.
The event coincides with the birthday of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, as he loved music, owned three violins, and enjoyed folk tunes as well as baroque music. Volunteer musicians will play throughout the event, and pies will be donated by members of the community. The Historical Society will provide beverages, tableware, and door prizes.
The goal of the capstone project and event is bring greater awareness to the White River Valley Historical Society and the history of Southwest Missouri, with an emphasis on Taney County. Funding for the event is provided through private donations and in-kind contributions; use of the Park is made possible by the City of Forsyth; Shadow Rock Park was the original location of the town until it was relocated in the 1950s.
