Moore Family

Ancestral pictures such as this one of Tom and Elizabeth Moore and their family are sought after by genealogists, as they help bring the members of the family tree to life.

The White River Valley Historical Society is offering a free Beginning Genealogical Research workshop on Saturday, April 9th. A monthly series of free themed research classes, held at the WRVHS in partnership with the Taneycomo Chapter DAR, will begin in May. Space is limited, and must be reserved in advance.

“This is the sixth time we’ve held the Research workshop over the last few years,” stated WRVHS Managing Director Leslie Wyman. “Genealogy is such a popular hobby, but can be overwhelming to those just starting out. This workshop has proven to be a hit over the years with beginner, as well as those with some experience who’ve hit dead ends and need fresh ideas. The day-long workshop covers seven different topics, including organization, free online sites, and breaking through brick walls.”

“We’re also excited to be able to once again offer our series of monthly classes for experienced researchers, partnering with members of the Taneycomo Chapter DAR. Each month, the participants will start off with a short program on a specific theme, followed by time to work on their own research with members of the WRVHS and DAR on hand to help with questions and problems. To be in this class, you must be able to use a computer, and may bring your own laptop or share in the usage of one of ours with other classmates. You do not have to be interested in joining the DAR, SAR, or any other lineage society, to participate in these free genealogy classes.”
