The White River Valley Historical Society will host a Racer’s Reunion on Saturday, October 25th at the Taney Center, located east of Forsyth on Hwy 160. The free event will run from 1–4 pm, and feature an informal gathering of those who participated in, or are interested in learning more about the days of dirt track stock car racing in the area.  Attendees are encouraged to bring photos and racing memorabilia to display at the event.  Refreshments will be provided.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Taney County dirt tracks once operated on Highway 76 in Branson, and at two different sites east and west of Kirbyville. Races were also held in places such as Ava, Aurora, and several locations in Arkansas, and most usually included powder-puff derbies in addition to the men’s races.

The WRVHS is currently in the process of collecting photos, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia pertaining to dirt track stock car racing, as well as recording the personal histories and memories of those involved.
