Pie Supper & Jam Session

For years, pie and box suppers were a common venue for courting couples, where the young, and not-so-young, man could bid on a pie or box in the hopes that it had been brought in by the girl of his dreams. Participants at the White River Valley Historical Society’s pie supper and jam session were able to enjoy this experience, as well as traditional music and a short program on other courting customs.

The event, held in conjunction with the Society’s current “Ozark Romance” exhibit, was held at the Taney Center on Saturday, March 24th. Attendees were encouraged to bring a pie or dessert, which was auctioned off to the highest bidder by Rick Findley of Mountain Country Auctions, with proceeds to benefit the WRVHS. Following a brief program on courtship traditions in the Ozarks was an auction and musical jam session.
