WRVHS to Host State Historical Society ‘Oral History’ Workshop

Ingenthron Family Reunion

Plenty of family memories and tales are usually shared at reunions such as this circa 1954 Ingenthron family gathering. Unfortunately, these stories can be lost over time unless someone sits with the family historian and records an oral history.

Jeff D. Corrigan from the State Historical Society of Missouri will present a workshop on oral histories at the White River Valley Historical Society on Monday, May 19th. The session will be held at 297 Main Street, Forsyth from 9am until noon, followed by a catered barbecue lunch, which is included in the $20 workshop fee, along with multiple handouts. During “Introduction to Oral History,” Corrigan, the State Historical Society’s oral historian, will guide attendees through the fundamentals of conducting oral history projects from the initial idea through the finished product. The workshop will focus on the pre-interview, interview, and post-interview phases, including planning, technology, drafting questions and more. This class is suitable for individuals seeking to document family history as well as organizations and individuals embarking on large-scale oral history projects and will include audio examples from actual oral histories. Registration is required and must be done directly through the State Historical Society by May 14th. Call (573) 882-7083 or email shsofmo@umsystem.edu.
