Possum Holler Fiddlers & A Bald Knobber Book Signing

Possum Holler Fiddlers

Members of the “Possum Holler Fiddlers” entertain guests at the WRVHS Quarterly Meeting.

Two unique events took place at the December 9th quarterly program. During the Social time prior to the meeting, local author Vonda Wilson Sheets was on hand to autograph her new book, ‘Absolution—a Bald Knobber Saga’. This work of historical fiction takes place between 1883 and 1891, and while it primarily focuses on the Bald Knobber vigilante group, it is also provides a look at life in the upper White River Valley during those turbulent years.

Following the membership meeting, several members of the “Possum Holler Fiddlers”, a group of musicians ranging from ages 10–18, performed a selection of Christmas music and other fiddle tunes.  The group was founded in 2008, when a week-long ‘Traditional Ozark Music Camp’ was held at the Ozark Mountain Folk Center in Mountain View, AR.  Each year since, camps have been held in Mountain View and Branson, led by master fiddlers from the area.  The Possums have performed at over 50 events, including the 2009 inauguration of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and the 2011 Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
