WRVHS ‘History in Your Attic’ Quarterly Program in Branson Sunday

History in Attic

Pictured are items that many people do not realize have historical significance for their family, or community.

The quarterly meeting/program of the White River Valley Historical Society  will be held at the Old Stone Church in Branson on Sunday, June 14th. The free event, open to non-members as well as members, will begin with a short meeting at 1:30pm, immediately followed by a presentation by James Babcock. At the conclusion of the program, the Branson Centennial Museum will be open for refreshments and a look at the current displays.

“History in Your Attic” will demonstrate to the audience how many of the items found throughout their homes may seem insignificant, but actually have historical value, such as church bulletins, restaurant menus, telephone directories, photographs, etc. Throughout this interactive program, everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion of what they may have in their homes, and to have specific questions regarding their items answered. Babcock, a familiar face throughout the county and a WRVHS board member, has been engaged in the buying and selling of rare books and autographs since 1972, and before retiring, held the positions of Assistant and Acting Archivist at the University of Oklahoma Library, Chief of the Burton Historical Collection with the Detroit Public Library, and Director of Libraries and Associate Professor at Alma College, Michigan.

The Old Stone Church is located at the corner of 4th and College Streets in Branson next to the First Presbyterian Church.  The Branson Centennial Museum, 101 Veterans Blvd (corner of Bus. Hwy 65 and Hwy 76), is open Monday–Saturday, 10–4, with no admission cost.
